Inspections, Tread Depth & Tips | Bonola Automotives in Greensborough Tyres are one of the most crucial components of your vehicle, especially when it comes to driving in wet weather. At Bonola Automotives in Greensborough, we understand how vital tyre performance is for your safety and the safety of others on the road. When tyres are new, they are designed to handle wet conditions effectively. The deep tread channels water away, helping maintain grip and reducing the risk of hydroplaning. However, as tyres wear down, their ability to perform in wet weather diminishes significantly. Low tread depth means less grip, longer braking distances, and a higher likelihood of skidding. Waiting until your tyres reach the minimum legal tread depth is not only risky but can severely compromise the safety of you, your passengers, and other road users. Maintaining correct tyre pressure is equally important when driving in wet conditions. Underinflated or overinflated tyres can reduce the contact area between the tyre and the road, impacting traction and stability. Tyres with incorrect pressure are more prone to hydroplaning, where water builds up under the tyre, leading to a loss of grip. Keeping your tyres inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure ensures optimal performance, improves handling on slippery surfaces, and reduces the chances of accidents in adverse weather. Regularly checking your tyre pressure, especially before wet weather, can make a significant difference to your safety on the road. It's also essential to look out for uneven tyre wear, which can be caused by poor wheel alignment. Uneven wear not only shortens the lifespan of your tyres but also reduces their ability to perform as intended, particularly in adverse weather. At Bonola Automotives, we recommend having your tyres regularly inspected for both wear and alignment issues to ensure they are in optimal condition. To stay safe on the road, it’s wise to rotate or replace your tyres before the wet weather sets in. This proactive approach ensures maximum safety, providing better grip and stability when driving in slippery conditions. Regular inspections and timely tyre replacements not only improve performance but also give you peace of mind, knowing that your vehicle is ready for whatever the weather throws your way. At Bonola Automotives in Greensborough, our team is here to assist with professional tyre inspections, alignment checks, and advice tailored to your vehicle's needs. Don’t wait for the tread to wear thin—stay safe and prepared by booking a tyre check today.

Ensure your safety this wet season with expert tyre inspections at Bonola Automotives in Greensborough. Check tread depth, prevent uneven wear, and get safety tips for optimal driving performance.

Brake Service & Maintenance in Greensborough, VIC

When buying, selling or re-registering a vehicle in Victoria, a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) is often essential. But for many drivers, the process can feel confusing — especially if your vehicle has received a defect notice or hasn’t been inspected in years.

At Bonola Automotives in Greensborough, we make the process straightforward. As an independently owned Repco Authorised Service centre, we provide comprehensive Roadworthy Inspections and defect repairs all in one convenient location. In many cases, repairs can be completed within the allowed grace period, helping customers avoid paying for an additional inspection.

Whether your vehicle needs minor adjustments or more extensive repairs, our experienced technicians can assess, repair and help return your car to a roadworthy condition quickly and efficiently. What Is a Roadworthy Inspection? A Roadworthy Inspection is a safety check designed to confirm that a vehicle meets Victoria’s minimum safety standards for use on public roads. It focuses on components that directly affect vehicle safety and roadworthiness rather than the overall mechanical condition of the vehicle.

A licensed vehicle tester will inspect critical systems including: Brakes and brake performance Steering and suspension Tyres and wheels Seats and seatbelts Windscreen and wipers Lights and indicators Vehicle structure and body condition Mirrors and visibility Engine leaks and emissions-related concerns A Roadworthy Certificate confirms the vehicle met the required safety standards at the time of inspection. Know the Victorian Roadworthiness Requirements If you’re preparing your vehicle for a Roadworthy Inspection in Victoria, it’s worth knowing exactly what the inspection covers. Vehicle Standards Information (VSI) 26 – Roadworthiness Requirements is the official guideline that sets out the roadworthiness standards used by Licensed Vehicle Testers under the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2021. It covers important areas including tyres and wheels, steering and suspension, brakes, lights, body and structural components, seatbelts and other safety-related equipment. VSI 26 applies to vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of 4.5 tonnes or less. A Roadworthy Inspection is focused on safety and roadworthiness at the time of inspection, rather than being a full mechanical condition or reliability check. What Happens If Your Vehicle Fails? Failing a Roadworthy Inspection does not necessarily mean your vehicle is unsafe to drive immediately, but it does mean certain items need attention before a certificate can be issued.

Common reasons vehicles fail include: Worn brake pads or discs Oil leaks Cracked or damaged windscreens Suspension wear Bald or uneven tyres Faulty lights or indicators Excessive steering play Damaged seatbelts Rust affecting structural integrity At Bonola Automotives in Greensborough, we can carry out the required repairs promptly and efficiently. Because we handle both inspections and repairs in-house, customers avoid the inconvenience of visiting multiple workshops. Understanding Vehicle Defect Notices in Victoria A defect notice is issued when police or transport authorities identify a vehicle with safety-related issues or illegal modifications. These notices usually come with a timeframe — often referred to as a grace period — for repairs to be completed.

Defect notices may relate to: Unsafe tyres Suspension or steering faults Excessive noise Lighting defects Structural damage Modified exhaust systems Oil leaks or smoke emissions Ride height or wheel modification issues Our team can inspect the vehicle, explain the defects clearly, complete the necessary repairs and help guide you through the reinspection process. That’s why choosing a workshop like Bonola Automotives is beneficial. Tips to Help Avoid Roadworthy Failures A few simple checks can reduce the likelihood of failing a Roadworthy Inspection: Check tyres regularly for tread wear and damage Replace blown globes immediately Address warning lights promptly Repair oil leaks early Listen for suspension noises or steering vibration Maintain regular servicing intervals Replace worn windscreen wipers before winter Keeping service records up to date can also help identify recurring issues before they become serious defects. Roadworthy Inspections & Defects FAQs Does a Roadworthy Inspection check the engine? Not completely. The inspection mainly focuses on safety-related items. However, serious oil leaks, excessive smoke or engine issues affecting safety may cause the vehicle to fail. Can modified vehicles still pass a Roadworthy Inspection? Yes — provided modifications comply with Victorian regulations. Illegal ride heights, wheel sizes, exhaust modifications or lighting changes may require correction before approval. How long does a Roadworthy Inspection usually take? Most inspections take between 45 minutes and 90 minutes depending on vehicle condition and whether repairs are required. All Roadworthy Inspections must be booked in, in advance. Can uneven tyre wear indicate other problems? Absolutely. Uneven wear often points to suspension, steering or wheel alignment issues which may also affect roadworthiness. Why do vehicles often fail for oil leaks? Oil leaks can contaminate suspension bushes, braking components and road surfaces. They may also indicate more serious mechanical problems if left unresolved. Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Bonola Automotives in Greensborough, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Bonola Automotives, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Bonola Automotives for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
